Special sushi roll

3 Feb

Today is a “Setsu-bun” day in Japan.
We eat a special sushi roll called “Eho-maki”.
Do you know sushi rolls?
I was really surprised when I saw many people eating them and walking on the street in Australia two years ago.
Anyway, it’s one of most famous Japanese foods.
We put rice on a squared dried seaweed and roll them with a raw seafood or vegetable, or both.

In Eho-maki, we put cucumber, grilled egg, mushroom, kampyo (dried gourd), ells, and so on.
It’s thicker than a normal suhi roll. So we also call it “Futo(thick)-maki”.
And the most important thing is the direction you look when you eat Eho-maki.
The direction is called “Eho” (literally “fortune direction”) and it changes every year. This year’s Eho is north north west.
It’s said that your dream will come true if you’re looking at Eho and praying your dream or favor, and you never speak until you finish eating it.
And you shouldn’t cut it because it’s said that cutting it means cutting the connection with happiness.

And eating Eho-maki is only popular in Kansai area in Japan.

I eat Eho-maki on Setsu-bun day every year.
I ate it this year, too.
But, ah, now, I have to tell you something.
I wrote this in the train in my way home, you know, before I ate an Eho-maki.
However, I forgot to look at Eho during eating… I completely forgot it…
Actually, I was absorbed in watching a drama which my most favorite actor is on.
(The drama, “Lucky Seven”, is broadcast every Monday in Japan.
I finnaly watched the latest episode tonight because I didn’t have enough time to watch it this week.
That’s why, I was so excited with it. In addition, this drama is very exciting and heartwarming.)
But no matter how I watched it with great excitement, how could I forget what I was thinking a few minutes ago so easily?
I was shocked. But I don’t mind so much because the Eho-maki was delicious.

My dream as a woman

19 Dec

I’d like to make use of what I have learned and experienced in a future job.
I also hope I can work at a place where women have equal rights.
Even though various situations for women have changed lately, women still have many disadvantages in their careers.
In the my favorite drama, glee, a high-school student named Quinn said that a woman still earned 70 cents to every dollar that a man did for the same job.
I totally agree with the opinion.

Women still have few opportunities for the promotion.
Moreover, they sometimes give it up work when pregnant or to look after their children.
They also have no guarantees that they can be back at work if they get pregnant.
I think it is particularly more prominent in Japan than in other developed countries.

In addition to it, we have an another type of problem.
I’m majoring in engineering, but actually there are few girls majoring in it.
Naturally, there are few women at such fields, for example at development departments of companies or at laboratories.
I think we have to take this problem more seriously.
If more and more women have a place in such fields, the technology might move to a new paradigm.
I feel proud of that I am a woman.

As a woman, I’ll do my best to build my career.
And of course, a job is not all my life.
I hope I can meet someone who spend my life with and I want to enjoy my life.

Oyster Bar

3 Dec

Today I enjoyed the dinner at Oyster Bar with my friend.
It was really wonderful.
We especially like especially RAW oysters.
And We talked about going to Oyster bar again.

I’ve just learned oysters are only in season in the R months, from SeptembeR to ApRil. We were wondering when they are in season. Of course we thought it’s in season in winter, but we weren’t sure.
Besides, in the summer before last, I saw oysters sold in Miyajima in Hiroshima.
They seemed really delicious.
So, can we enjoy oysters in summer, too? lol

Anyway, we had a good time today.
Although the forecaster said it was going to rain today, it didn’t!

By the way, my other friend said that he ate raw oysters in San Francisco.
Is it also popular to eat raw oysters not only for Japanese?
I thought almost all people don’t like eating raw food, like raw fish: such as sushi or sashimi.
Of course I think sushi is popular around the world, but it was strange at first.

How about you?

Russian…?

9 Nov

I read a newspaper article that developing nations’ languages are learned by more and more peoples.
According to DILA (a language school’s), the numbers of Portuguese learners has jumped from 9th to 3rd, and Russian learners has surged from 11th to 4th in this decade and the numbers of lecturers ordered by companies or government offices are high too.
The article said that it’s because more and more companies started to aim to expand their sales in developing countries’ markets.

To be honest, I’m really surprised to see that the number of Russian learners is so large.
Although it’s not surprising that more and more people are learning developing countries’ languages, Russian is really unfamiliar to me.
I didn’t know Russian has been gaining a lot of attention.

I think the world is changing too fast.

In addition, I’m a beginner in Chinese even though I startedto study it 3 years ago.
I seldom learned it for 3 years.

Nice interior design and goods

2 Sep

I like reading articles about interior design on the Internet.

I show one of my favorite web sites for interior design.

Matomeno

Since this site is managed by a Japanese company, the products that are introduced are sold in Japan.
Its original site is written in Japanese; here
And almost all goods are linked to online shopping sites.
Some of them are available to ship oversea.

It introduces many kinds of goods which are attractive to me and have good design.

But I haven’t bought anything because many of them are too expensive for me.
I just enjoy searching goods.
But it’s really enjoyable for me:)

One of my favorite items is this glass.
SAKURASAKU glass
Of course I know it’s not Sakura season now.

And I also reccomend this umbrella.
You can be the center of attention if you bring this! haha.
But maybe you also attract police attention.
Samurai Umbrella

I’d like you to let me know other sites like this!

This is a big impact for many people including me.
I like Apple products, although the only Apple gadget I have is the iPod touch.
I believe Apple will continue to produce exciting gadgets after his leave!

I would buy a Mac book air if I had enough money. 😛

My favorite baseball player

4 May

Today I went out to see a farm teams’ baseball game between the Tigers and the Buffaloes.
It’s because my favorite player plays there.
I’ve liked him since he was a rookie for the Hanshin Tigers.
He plays for the Buffaloes now.
In the first part of the season, he was a member of the first team.
But he only had few chances to play there and was demoted to the farm soon.

I often go to the first teams’ games.
So this is my first time to go to a farm team’s game.
The stadium has a seating capacity of about 1000.
On the contrary, the main stadium which is for the first teams’ games has a seating capacity of more than 30,000.
In addition, the ticket costs only 500 yen.
But it costs more than 1000 yen to go and back from my home.
If I lived near there, I would go there frequently.

The game was exciting.
My favorite player hit two for three.
He is still a good player even though he’s been laid off 3 times.
Balls batted by younger players seemed to be lazy.
I felt the difference between the first team and the farm team.
I hope he will be promoted to the first team!
